A Wider Perspective: How to Look at Life

I’ve been running on the same trail for weeks. And there are a few spots that hinder my progress forward. One is a small patch of frozen water (a creek in warmer days) through the trail – yes, sometimes that’s called ice, but this is different because I’m not sure if it’s pure ice or if there’s water below the surface. I tread carefully.

And today, alone on the path, I realized I was once again looking down more than I was looking up, and I was looking narrowly; my myopic view included only the trail.

Widening my view allowed me to see the dry rocks just off the path that I could step on and have no worries about the ice cracking or me slipping. I laughed at myself and then climbed over the rocks to keep moving forward.

I’ve missed this lesson – of widening my view or perspective in all kinds of ways in my life. I get so focused on my path or my doing something that I forget to ask myself (or others) – how else could I get there, how else could I get this done, or what other options are there? How might you be doing this in your life? What would happen if you broaden your view?
